We believe that children learn best through play, interacting with their environment and using their imaginations & creativity. We believe in a language-rich environment that includes time for speaking (holding conversations, communicating needs, singing songs) and listening (to stories, music and each other).
Each day we spend time in our classroom “centers”.
BLOCKS – A variety of different sized and shaped blocks are available to sort, stack and build with at this center.Children enhance creative expression, spatial relationships, and organization & reasoning skills.
SCIENCE – Children scoop, sift, measure and examine at the sand and water table. Children also investigate magnets, reflections, and magnification at the science table. They are always excited to make observations and discuss their findings!
MATH – Teddy bear counters, unifix cubes, Cuisenaire rods and scales are some of the manipulatives used in this center to practice patterns, counting, measurement, geometry and spatial sense.
LIBRARY – Children get cozy with a good book. Letter recognition, book knowledge, book appreciation and print awareness are all developed.Headphones and books on tape also develop listening and comprehension skills.
ART- Scissors, glue, glitter, paint and “all things crafty” are put to use by busy children in this center to express individual creativity and foster an appreciation of the arts.
WRITING – Tracers, stencils, alphabet strips, pencils, markers are all used here to encourage the use of symbols to represent letters, words and ideas.
DRAMATIC PLAY – Get cooking in the kitchen with pots, pans, dishes, utensils and food! The children can dress up with shirts, purses, gloves, hats and jewels too.
MUSIC - Bang the cymbals, shake the tambourine, sing out loud, & use other instruments to make beautiful music. Don't forget to dance!
